The Star South Dance Company
Company members study ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, hip hop and character/musical theatre. Company members receive pre-professional training at Studio 1. In addition, they have the opportunity to study throughout the year not only with Studio 1, but with guest artists, conventions, and workshops with dance professionals throughout the US. Performances throughout the year have included Christmas and Spring Shows, Festival of Trees in Atlanta, Jazz on Tap Festival, Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Disney World, The Fed-Ex Orange Bowl in Miami, FL , The 1996 Olympics opening ceremony, Television, Film, NBA Games, local festivals/events, and much more. The Dance Company attends various competitions in the spring, and hold many regional and national titles. Many company dancers have gone on to dance in college, received college scholarships, and had careers in dance and the performing arts.
The Star South Dance Company is divided into age and ability levels. The current division is as follows:
Mini Company- Ages 5-8
Petite Company- Ages 6-9
Junior Company - Ages 9-11
Teen Company - Ages 11- 14
Senior Company - (Advanced teens)
The commitment needed as a Star South Dance Company member is serious, and is not taken lightly. The Star South Dance Company members are required to participate from the summer intensive held at the end of July, through the end May at Spring Recital.
